Now if only Wilson would grow a moustache…
I got to see Sherlock Holmes last Saturday. I was not disappointed: that was one effin’ good movie. I have never read the actual stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. However I know enough and have researched enough that I wasn’t one of the rumored many who thought Holmes in the 2009 film was suffering from adaptation decay.
Who watches House? Everyone knows by now that Dr. Gregory House is based off of Sherlock Holmes, correct? Okay, moving on. Knowing this, is it now more obvious how similar the two characters are? They act alike. Their names are suspiciously similar. They even looked alike (not really but not shaving for a month definitely does something to a guy’s look). And the relationship between Holmes and Sherlock in the film was definitely very House and Wilson-ish (in personality and relationship only- House’s team takes Wilson’s place as the medical partner in crime fighting), or rather, vice versa.
If you watch House and your favorite thing about the entire series is House’s personality, you would love Sherlock Holmes, because House’s gerneral dislike of being around people, hypocrisy, his super-duper deduction skills and even his drug addiction actually come from the original Holmes as Sir Conan Doyle had truly portrayed him in his books. Oddly enough, a TV show about doctors has portrayed a character that was originally a detective better than several actual detective shows. The good news is, the new movie is actually incredibly accurate as well. No dip.
